CHURCH HILL - George E. Lawson, 85, of Church Hill TN passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born in Hawkins County in 1939, George enlisted in the U.S. Army and was proud to have served his country from 1962 to 1964. Following his service, he was employed by Mead Paper and Willamette Paper from 1964 till his retirement in 1998 after 34 years. George enjoyed 26 years of retirement spending time piddling in his building, working on old tractors and watching Tennessee football and old westerns with Betty.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Ada (Greer) Lawson: his sisters, Viola Everett, Ann Blakely and Jean Bryant: his brothers J.C., Dairl, Bob and Mac Lawson.
George is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Betty R. (Collins) Lawson of the home; his sons, Roger Lawson and his wife Angela of Church Hill, TN and Mike Lawson and his wife Sherri of Seneca, SC; two grandsons, Alex Lawson and his wife Maegan and Zac Lawson and his girlfriend Haley Stewart of Kingsport, TN; great granddaughter, Bella Lawson; brother, Herman Lawson and his wife Patsy of Church Hill, TN; and special brother, Tom Garrison and special niece Jeania Ledford.
The family would like to thank Jimmy Greer and Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate and loving care given to George during this time.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Church Hill Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by VFW Post #9683, Bulls Gap, TN. The family requested family and friends that wish to pay their respects to George meet at the funeral home from 10:00 - 11:45 AM. A procession will follow at 11:45 AM to the cemetery with Bro. Bud Arrowood speaking. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be George's grandsons.
