Godwin Dunn Obituary

Godwin Pierce "Earl" Dunn, Jr., passed away on the 4th day of May at the age of 87. He was the eldest son of Godwin Pierce Dunn, Sr. and Mabel Cotesworth Dunn from Alexandria, VA. He was a 1959 graduate of Virginia Tech. Earl served in the U.S. Army Reserves, Ordinance & Armor Division for 7 1/2 years. He had an active career in electrical and mechanical engineering encompassing an area from Pennsylvania to Ohio, Texas to South Carolina. Earl was an avid golfer and loved the game. He loved classical music, was a talented woodworker and gifted gardener.

He is survived by Rose Marie Jones Dunn, his wife of 63 years; two brothers, Charles Lee Dunn & family from Richmond, VA and John Edward Dunn & family from Vashon Island, WA; his two sons, James Michael Dunn & family, CO. Richard Cary Dunn, wife Wendy & family, MO; his five grandchildren, Whitney, Adam, Anna, Emily and Laurel and two great-grandchildren, Nash and Emory.

The family wants to thank the fifth-floor staff of Holston Valley Medical Center as well as the staff at NHC for the wonderful care they provided for our father.

He was an active member of St. Peter the Apostle Anglican Church in Kingsport, TN.

The funeral will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Anglican Church on June 17, 2023 at 2:00 pm. A celebration of life will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Anglican Church, 3321 Thornton Drive, Kingsport, TN. 37664.
