Guy Wood Meade, Jr. December 1, 1957 - April 7, 2024
KINGSPORT - Guy Meade, 66, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Guy was born on December 1, 1957 to the late Guy and Minnie Ruth Meade.
Guy was a 1975 graduate of Dobyns Bennett High School and a 1979 graduate of ETSU. He played football for both Dobyns Bennett and ETSU, excelling in punting and had mentored many players through the years. He had a life-long passion for UT sports. Guy worked for the Kingsport Press for 8 years and for Van Waters & Rogers for 14 years. In 2001, he was joined by John Rippetoe, Tom Meade and Lynn Parker and together they formed Appalachian Environmental Resources (AER). Guy served the company as Sr. Vice President. Through his professional leadership in sales and marketing, the company has grown from a fledgling company to one of the leading environmental companies in this region, providing both waste management, compliance and regulatory, and health/safety services to industries now across the United States.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David Edward and Joseph Lynn; and by his mother-in law, Norma Bray.
Guy is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Marty; his sons, Timmy Joe (Kristine), Jonathan Thomas (Erin); granddaughter, Isabelle; father-in law, Lowell Bray; brother, Tom Meade (Starr); nephew, John Meade (Kim); niece, Michelle Carmichael (Dan); several cousins, great-nephews and great-nieces, and a great-great nephew.
Guy was always ready to share his faith and his love for the Lord. He has served many years as a teacher and deacon in his church.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 5:00 ? 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Greg Burton and Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating, and special Eulogy by Tom Meade.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be John Meade, Joe Meade, Dan Carmichael, Sam Carmichael, Jack Carmichael and Brian Alderson. There will also be several honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Colonial Heights Baptist Church: 108 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport, TN 37663.

I was just talking about Guy this morning. It's hard to believe almost a year has gone since we last saw him. We miss him. Much love to Marty, their sons, and the rest of their family. You've shown a lot of resilience, and your faith shines through it all.
