GATE CITY, VA- Guy "Eddie" Vermillion, 82, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Holston Valley Medical Center, from COVID.
Guy was born in Scott County, VA, on November 10, 1941, to the late Clarence and Mae (Gillenwater) Vermillion.
His sister, Shelby J. Smith-Nutter preceded him in death.
He graduated from Gate City High School and was a member of Richlands National Guard for six years. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 35 years of service. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Gate City and enjoyed watching football and basketball games.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Bettye Jeanne Carter Vermillion; son, Brian Vermillion (Crystal), Murfreesboro, TN; daughter, Beth Williams (Kevin), Celina, TX; and grandsons, Will Vermillion, Tampa FL, Jonathan Vermillion, Murfreesboro, TN, Grant Williams, Cincinnati, OH, and Garrison Williams, Celina, TX.
The family will receive friends from 12-2p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 2:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Quickel, Jr. officiating.
Graveside services will follow at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Will Vermillion, Jonathan Vermillion, Grant Williams, Garrison Williams, and Kevin Williams will serve as pallbearers. O.L. Horne, David Alley, John Barger, Scottie Gillenwater, and Winston Peters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Gate City, P.O. Box 506, Gate City, VA, 24251.

Eddie was a member of my Guard unit in Richlands when I was commander there. He was an excellent member. RIP Eddie
