Harvey Bernard Hart was born on November 23, 1952, in Bristol, Oklahoma, to the late Earl and Arvelene Hart. He entered into eternal rest on December 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of courage, leadership, and deep love for his family.
Harvey lived a remarkable life marked by service and breaking barriers. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he developed more discipline and resilience that guided him throughout his life. After his military service, Harvey continued his life of service by making history in Port Arthur, Texas. He became the first Black fireman in the Port Arthur Fire Department and remained the only Black firefighter for seven years, paving the way for others through resilience and excellence.
During his more than 30 years of service, Harvey received training in Rescue Scuba Diving
with the fire department and rose to the respected roles of Captain and Arson Investigator. He loved his career deeply. His legacy at the fire department remains strong and honorable.
Harvey continued helping others by pursuing a second career as a Registered Nurse, demonstrating his compassion and devotion to caring for people.
Harvey cherished the simple joys of life, including western movies, talking politics, and most importantly, spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends.
Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Glenda Marie Hart, his children: Derek Hart, Chancelor Hart, Skylar Hart, Erica Washington, Gregory (Jameka) Washington, Ennis Washington, and Dana’ Washington; and siblings: Steve (Wilma) Hart, Ruddell (Sheryl) Hart, and Brenda (Wayne) Scaife; grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers Bruce, Earl “Ray,” Danny, Scotty, and Kevin, all of whom he loved deeply.
Harvey’s legacy of strength, humility, wisdom, and love will continue to live on in every life he touched.

I drove for Mr. Hart bringing him to dialysis( Bmt Transit). He spoke highly of his family, especially his grandchildren. I feel I know them personally. Mr. Hart loved his family. He will be deeply missed. It was an Honor serving him. I will never forget his kindness. I apologize for being late, however, I just found out on Jan. 03 2026. It's sad I couldn't say my goodbyes.
God needed another Angel.

To begin my condolences to the Hart family. I have known Harvey for over 40 years. I meet him when I became part of the PAFD. My first and lasting impression was he was a decent and brave individual. We often entered situations dangerous, unhealthy, and times totally out of control. Duty called that we deal with such. It was good to know he had my back, as I had his. "Rest in peace" Harvey I'm glad our paths crossed. You will be truly missed and remembered.

To his lovely wife Glenda, we sorrow with you and are praying for you and your family. We are family and we love you!
