Hazel Price Obituary

Hazel Rhea Price

August 17, 2025

II Timothy 4:7-8

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Our precious mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Hazel Rhea Price, 91, went to be with the Lord and family in Heaven on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at her home in Church Hill, TN.

Mom was the last remaining child of the late Viola and Obie Rhea, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Obie Rhea Jr. and MacArthur Rhea; her sisters, Nellie Smith, Barbara Rhea, and Peggy Templeton; and the father of her children, Ralph M. Price.

Mom worked at the Hawkins County Press for 25 years where she worked with two very special friends, Shirley Kendrick and Ruby Mellons.

Mom loved working in her flowers and helping others with their flower gardens. She was always reaching out to those in need by taking food or whatever was needed as long as her health allowed. Her potato salad and dumplings were always in high demand.

Mom was saved at an early age at Greenvale Baptist Church. Her heart was always with Greenvale.

Mom is survived by her daughter and son in love, Kimberly and Tim Smith of Church Hill, TN, who were also her loving caregivers; her son and daughter in love, Randy and Sharon Price of Mt. Carmel, TN; grandchildren, Crystal (David) Webb, Amy (Travis) Cradic, and Heath Price; great-grandchildren, Bailey (Nathan) Wheatley, Alex (Madison) Schwartz, Abbey Cradic, and Jackson Webb; sisters-in-law, Nancy Rhea and Linda Dennison; several nieces, nephews, and a very special friend, Ann Cookenour; and mom was looking forward to the birth of her first great-great-grandson, Isaiah Wheatley, to be born on August 19, 2025.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, August 21, 2025, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home, or anytime at home.

A Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Ryan Shaffer officiating. Music will be under the direction of New Grace Trio.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, August 22, 2025, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Hope. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 am.

A special thanks to Amedisys Home Health for their excellent care of our mom.

Mom had a special love for children so in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in mom's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.

The care of Hazel Rhea Price and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
