Henry Franklin Phipps June 18, 2024
NORTH TAZEWELL, VA - Henry Franklin (Frank) Phipps, 82, of North Tazewell, VA, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2024, after an extended illness.
Henry was born in Norton, VA in 1942 to E.S and Jeanette Phipps. He attended John I. Burton High School in Norton, VA and then-Clinch Valley College in Wise, VA before studying civil engineering at Virginia Tech. He served six years with the Virginia Army National Guard Transportation Battalion and had a 40-year career as Resident Engineer with the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Westmoreland Coal Company.
He is preceded in death by his parents E.S. and Jeanette Phipps, his in-laws J.C. and Lena Isom, and his sister Arlene Collins.
Henry is survived by his wife of 58 years Polly Phipps of North Tazewell, VA, two sons James Phipps and Miranda Leaver of Davidson, NC and Scott and Carrie Phipps of Galen OH, two granddaughters Isabella and Amelia Phipps of Galen, OH, two sisters, Janice Akers and Virginia Workman of Kingsport, TN, and brother Tom Phipps of Norton, VA.
Visitation will be on June 29thfrom 2-3PM at Peery & St Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA. A memorial service will follow from 3-4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to either the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I worked for Frank in the 80's. He was very instrumental in allowing me time to finish my college education. My thoughts and prayers are with Polly and the boys.
