KINGSPORT - Henry Jay Prater, age 67, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024. He had worked at the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department and most recently was a retiree of Loomis Armored Transportation. Henry loved to fish and play drums, and was a member of several local bands.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Tiny Prater.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kim Prater; daughter, Wendy Gauthier; son, Troy Prater; sisters, Penny and Mary Prater; brother, Tim Prater and wife, GeorgeAnn; granddaughter, Adrianne Raine Hobbs; and grandson, Ian Storme Hobbs.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport. A military graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

I worked with Henry for many years. Through his leadership as a Supervisor for Loomis, he had a huge impact on commerce in the Tri-Cities region. I remember Henry for his love of drums and the Alabama Crimson Tide. You'll be greatly missed Henry.
