Howard Wayne Moats

JONESBOROUGH - Howard Wayne Moats, 91, of Jonesborough, TN went home to be with Jesus on June 13, 2025, in Miami, Florida.

He was born on June 14, 1933, in Kingsport, TN to the late Paul and Ethel Long Moats.

After graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1953. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant while working in communications as a lineman and telephone network technician. He was honorably discharged from McCellan Air Force Base in California after proudly serving his country for four years.

After working in California for a few years, he was able to relocate back home to Kingsport and later attended ESTU. He was employed at ASG - American Saint Gobain and most notably Holston Defense where he retired as an instrument mechanic.

Howard was a devoted and loving husband for 58 years to his wife, the late Mary Anne Sullivan originally from Duplin County, NC.

He treasured time with his family and his relationship with the Lord.

Howard enjoyed reading and watching videos about the end times. He had compassion for those in need and contributed regularly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and other charities.

He especially enjoyed being with his granddaughters who were dear to his heart. Some of his favorite pastimes included watching Gunsmoke and other westerns, as well as coin collecting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne Sullivan Moats; his siblings, Fred Moats, Martha Pullman, Hettie Calloway, Louise Robinette, John Moats, and Maude Blevins.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Georgia Arnold and husband, Ralph; his son, Mitchell Moats and wife, Jacqueline; grandchildren, Michelle and Jacqueline Moats; along with other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Saturday June 28, 2025, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating.

An Entombment Service will follow at 3:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Mausoleum IV.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Howard's honor be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
