James Lee Bishop, Sr. September 11, 1934 - September 13, 2024
KINGSPORT - James Lee Bishop, Sr., 90, of Kingsport passed away Friday, September 13. He was born in Rye Cove, Virginia on September 11, 1934 to the late Patton and Allie Brooks Bishop.
Jim was a graduate of Rye Cove Memorial High School, and a U.S. Army veteran who served in Okinawa during peace time. He worked for Chrysler in Detroit, MI, Foote Mineral in VA, and he retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 36 years of service in 1996. Jim was an active member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 27 years. Jim also enjoyed yardwork, golfing, and was able to visit all the Major League baseball stadiums.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Kelly, W.D., and Gerald, and his sisters Yvonne Barrow and Louise Kern.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Bellamy Bishop; his sons, Joel and Lee Bishop, and his grandchildren: Cade, Josie, Madison, Drew, Ty, and Olivia.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 20 from 4:30- 6:30 p.m.at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m. officiated by Dr. Greg Burton. Music will be provided by Bruce Lyttle.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hamlett Dobson Memorial Park on Hwy 75, Blountville.
