James (Jim) Francis Canty May 19, 2024
KINGSPORT - James (Jim) Francis Canty went to be with the Lord on May 19th, 2024 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pascagoula MS, Jim had lived in Kingsport since the late 50's and graduated from Ketron High School. He served 6 years in the Army National Guard, 1/117th Infantry. Jim retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 30+ years of service and spent 10 years with AGC Glass before retiring. Jim was a lifelong member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He loved his church, his family, and his dogs Harper and Boomer.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Francis V. Canty, mother Myrtle Greer Canty, and infant brother Jonathan.
Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Williams Canty, daughter Karen Prillhart (Alan), daughter Elizabeth Dunn (Lee), son Mark Canty (Christi), grandchildren Dr. Alexis Kutz (Zack), Dr. Cameron James Prillhart, Zachary Dunn (Riley), Lucas Dunn, Ruby Canty, Olive Canty, Austin Thompson, Maddy Sexton, and great-grandson Graham Francis Kutz.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Larry Browder officiating.
The graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be James Prillhart, Zachary Dunn, Lucas Dunn, Zack Kutz, Lee Dunn and Alan Prillhart. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Thompson, Bill Johnson, Dennis Horton, Gary Gibson and Gary Williams.
The family ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 125 Coley St., Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, donate.lovetothe rescue.org.

As cousins, Jimmy and I were very close during our younger years. But as we got older and got married we saw less and less of each other. My loss.
