GATE CITY, VA – James Walter "Jimmy" Haynes, 90, of the Yuma Community, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Nova Health Care.
Jimmy was born on January 24,1933 in Gate City, VA, a son of the late KP and Margaret (Davis) Haynes. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Elizabeth (Jones) Haynes in April of 2009. Jimmy was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church and a charter member of Yuma Ruritan. He loved animals, especially cats. Jimmy enjoyed working on cars, driving a bus and loved to tell stories about his youth. He would make copies of old pictures and send them to friends and family. Jimmy was retired from BAE Systems where he served as a security officer, and Mason-Dixon truck lines where he was a diesel mechanic.
Surviving are his daughter, Tina Haynes Lucas and husband Scotty; granddaughters Rebekah Lucas Duncan and husband Clint, and Audrey Lucas; all of whom he adored. He had several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Scott County Funeral Home. Services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Crystal Smith officiating. Music will be provided by the Prospect UMC Choir.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at 11:15 am Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Prospect UMC Cemetery, Yuma, VA for the graveside services for Jimmy.
Pallbearers will be Josiah DeLeon, Tracy Davis, Jason Smith, John DeLeon, Eric Johnson, Manny DeLeon, Malachi DeLeon, and Lanny Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Alley, Wayne McGee, Larry McGee, Manuel Davis, Jack Johnson, E.M. McConnell, Jr., and Men of Prospect United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prospect UMC Cemetery fund, c/o Jason Smith, 2127 Yuma Rd, Gate City, VA 24251.
