Janet Fay Lounds
May 15, 1951 -
December 31, 2024
Janet Fay Lounds was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on May 15th, 1951, to Norman and Edith Gregg. She was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on December 31, 2024.
Throughout her entire life, Janet's compassionate and caring spirit shone brightly. She began working as a nurse after obtaining her LPN certification from Lake Superior State College in 1970. After working in various capacities within a small community hospital and a nursing home in Michigan, she knew that nursing was her calling. She returned to school, attending Memphis State University and later graduating from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Shortly after moving to Kingsport in 1989, she served as a dedicated registered nurse at Holston Valley Hospital, where her gentle touch and empathy brought comfort to countless patients. Later, she continued her work at Kingsport Endoscopy Corporation/Gastroenterology Associates, where her nursing family loved and supported one another through each of life's journeys for nearly 20 years. Janet's nursing career exemplified her profound dedication and commitment to helping others.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Janet's greatest joys in life were her family and her faith. She cherished every moment with her son, Jeremiah, daughter-in-law, Jeanette, and granddaughters, Morgan and Amelia. Her granddaughters were everything to her. She treasured being involved in their lives, having them for sleepovers, attending early morning swim meets, anything they were involved in, and found immense joy in their laughter and watching them grow. Janet also valued spending quality time with her sisters, brother, their families, and any moment spent with her closest friends. She was a compassionate listener and a source of great comfort for many. "God's Creation," as Janet called nature, was a constant source of happiness and inspiration in her life. She found joy in walking, from short strolls to long walks, and also in bike riding.
Faith was the cornerstone of Janet's life. She was an active member of the Colonial Heights Christian Church community, where she participated in the choir, Sunday School, and Bible study groups. Her steadfast faith influenced every aspect of her life and provided her with unwavering strength. The love and support she received from her church family were invaluable to her, and she cherished the bonds she formed with fellow believers. She felt so blessed to be part of such a loving, faithful congregation who love and worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Janet wished for each and every member of Colonial Heights Christian Church to know how thankful she was for them and how much she loved them.
In a letter she wrote to her family before her death, Janet said, "I don't want people to be sad I am gone - heaven is a glorious place. There is no sadness, sickness, or heartache there. I'll be with my Lord and Savior walking the streets of gold. Meet me in heaven - I will be waiting for you." These words offer comfort and a glimpse into her unwavering faith.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Norman and Edith. She is survived by her son, Jeremiah Lounds, and his wife, Jeanette; her cherished granddaughters, Morgan and Amelia; her sisters, Judy Caldwell (Dennis) and Jill Johnson (Eric); her brother, Jerry Gregg (Rhonda); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held in May 2025, near her birthday, so her extended family and friends can all gather together. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels of Kingsport, an organization that mirrored Janet's own charitable nature in serving the needs of others.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Preston Place II, Amedisys, and Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home for their love, care, and support, as well as all her faithful friends.
