Jerry Allen Coates

December 24, 2024

KINGSPORT - Jerry Allen Coates, 83, of Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at home. He graduated from Holston High School in 1961 and retired from Raytheon in 1999. Jerry loved sports, especially University of Tennessee football and basketball. He also enjoyed fishing, the beach, and spending time with family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Nell and D.H. Coates; brothers, Jimmy Coates and Clifford DeVault; sisters, Brenda Coates and Hazel Anderson.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Kathy Lisenby; sister, Kay McPherson; brother, Cecil Laws (Kathryn); stepsons, James Lisenby (Tonya) and David Lisenby (Nicole); step-grandsons, Nathan Lisenby and Brendan Lisenby; special friends, William DeVault (Sherry) and Mike Carter (Donna). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 6, 2025 from 1:00-2:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Chris Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Ballad Home Health, Caris Hospice, and Aishlinn Izworski, caregiver with Amada Senior Care.
