Jerry B. Whitt July 10, 2024
KINGSPORT - Jerry B. Whitt, 87, of Kingsport, TN, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Born and raised in Tazewell County, VA, he graduated from Richlands High School in 1955. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1959, he moved to Galax, VA with his brother Larry where they operated a Sinclair Service Station. There he met the love of his life, Susie. Jerry's career evolved and he spent the majority of his time managing a Carter Lumber in Kokomo, IN for nearly 40 years. Jerry and Susie relocated to Tennessee to be close to their girls in 2015. Jerry had a life-long passion for gadgets and electronics ranging from radio operator in the Air Force to video game systems, cameras, tablets, computers and drones in more recent years. He always had a ready smile and kind words for friends and strangers alike, and he displayed more love and patience than most of us deserved.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin B. Whitt; mother, Edith Fleming Whitt; son-in-law, Mike Haun; granddaughter, Mandie Haun; and brother, Joseph Edward Whitt.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue G. Whitt; daughters, Melony Haun of Kingsport, TN, and Holli Alexander (Doug) of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren, Dustin Haun (Kricket) and Hailey Haun; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Keelan, Kylie, Maurannah, Silas and Lavender; siblings, Larry Whitt of Hurricane, WV, and Dahnmon Whitt (Sharon) of Flatwoods, KY; and dozens of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
