Jerry Wade Whittemore August 21, 1965 - July 24, 2024
KINGSPORT - Jerry Wade Whittemore, 58, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jerry was born in Kingsport on August 21, 1965. Born with hemophilia, he learned early how to deal with adversity and never let others set limits for him. Against conventional thinking, Jerry worked in construction and electrical as a young man but found his niche in commercial refrigeration. He was co-owner of Temptech Commercial Refrigeration until its closure.
He was a true jack of all trades carpenter, electrician, mason, draftsman, leathersmith, and woodworker (mastering the CNC). He was also a musician who played the guitar, banjo, and mandolin and performed with several local bands in his younger years.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Sherriell Whittemore and Elma "Tootsie" Whittemore.
Those left to cherish Jerry's memory are his loving wife of 29 years, Jacqueline (Jackie) Whittemore; son, Jesse Whittemore (Kayla); daughter, Bethany Crawford (Andrew); precious grandson, Noah Crawford; sister, Cindy Struck (Jim); brother, Phil Whittemore (Lisa); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Ballad Cancer Center, Ballad Palliative Care, and Gentiva Hospice Care for their compassionate care of Jerry during his illness.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services.
A Celebration of Jerry's life will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Phil Whittemore officiating, Special singing will be provided by his great nieces, Shayleigh, Emerson, and Ellasyn Pratt.
Per his wishes, Jerry will be laid to rest next to his mother in the Begley family plot at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
