Jimmie Belle Salyer June 7, 1924 - August 28, 2024
KINGSPORT - Jimmie Belle Salyer, 100, of Kingsport passed away August 28, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Jimmie was born June 7, 1924, in Hiltons, VA to the late James Lee Fugate and Mary Kate Olinger Fugate.
Jimmie worked at the Kingsport Press after she graduated from Hiltons High School. She married Raymond E. Salyer on November 22, 1946. Later, she went back to work at Borden Mills/J.P. Stevens and worked for 38 years until she retired at 65 years of age.
She enjoyed spending her retirement years cooking and reading recipes. Jimmie worked crossword puzzles, read the newspaper and kept up with the news until her death.
Jimmie loved being with her three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She loved her extended family of nephews and nieces and watching all the great and great-great nieces and nephews grow up.
She had a wonderful time at her 100th birthday party in June 2024. Nearly 100 people, who were family and friends, came to celebrate with her. Jimmie greeted and talked to everyone she saw and shared pictures of her youth. She saw a tremendous amount of historical changes in the world during her 100 years.
In addition to her parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Salyer; thirteen siblings; and her son-in-law, Gary W. Skelton.
Those left to cherish Jimmie's memory are her daughter, Patricia Skelton, grandsons, Jason W. Skelton and Brian L. Skelton; granddaughter, Jill Whisnant (Matt); great-grandchildren, Christian Skelton, Carson Ray Whisnant, and Jackson Whisnant; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.
