ROGERSVILLE - Jimmy (Jay) Carson Lawson, age 86, of Rogersville, went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport after a brief battle with Covid.
Jay was born on July 2, 1937. He was a veteran of Foreign War, serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean War (1954-1956). Jay was an employee of Beacon Construction in Kingsport, also other local construction companies. He was an outstanding mechanic. He enjoyed his retirement, loved old cars, and muscle cars, fishing, country music, sitting on his porch and watching the world go by. He always found joy in the simple things.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Lawson; two sisters, Ann Walker of Mt. Carmel and Hallie Bennett of Church Hill; three brothers, Ross Lawson of Maryland, Claude Lawson of Mt, Carmel, and Walter Lawson of Church Hill.
He is survived by two sisters, Bobbie Benard of Indiana and Frances (Larry) Frost of Mt. Carmel; brother, Billy Lawson of Church Hill; sister-in-law, Ruth Lawson of Church Hill; special niece, Angie McLain; and very special great-niece, Timber McLain of Mt. Carmel. Jay leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends, and great neighbors; one very special friend and neighbor, Tom Stapleton.
Military graveside services will be held Monday, January 22, 2024 at 2:00 pm in Highland Cemetery with Rev. Hugh Minor officiating. Music and words of comfort will be provided by Joey Strickler. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. If you wish to follow in the funeral procession please meet at Christian-Sells Funeral Home by 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
