Jo Ann Stapleton Mitchell

KINGSPORT - Jo Ann Stapleton Mitchell 88, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2024. She was born in Hansonville, VA to the late Marzell and Venus Stapleton. Jo was well known in Kingsport through her many years of employment with Ailsie Straley Catering. She was an organizer of the Meals on Wheels Program in the Kingsport area as well as being a parent leader of many Kingsport Girl Scout Troops. Jo attended Bethel Presbyterian Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth E. Stapleton Sr. (Christine); sister, Peggy Teague (Abe) and Gaye Haulsee (Mike).

Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years, Melvin Mitchell; daughters, Robin Mitchell Jechura and Karen Buck; son, Tim Mitchell (Kelly); grandchildren, Rev. Chet M. Jechura (Darian Harnish), Ashlee Buck, Preston Mitchell, and Adam Mitchell; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3pm to 4pm on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with her grandson Rev. Chet Mitchell Jechura officiating.

A private graveside service will be conducted at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
