HILTON HEAD, SC - Dr. John Richard Hall, a distinguished trauma surgeon and academic, passed away December 27, 2023, at his home in Hilton Head, SC. Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Dr. Hall graduated from Stanford University in 1974 and the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 1977. His pioneering work in pediatric trauma care earned national recognition, including an invitation to the White House to brief then-President George H. W. Bush. In 2006, then-Governor Bredesen (TN) made him an honorary Colonel in the Tennessee State Guard to honor the countless lives he saved as a trauma surgeon in East Tennessee. Above all, Dr. Hall cherished his role as a father. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Corey Evelyn Hall, Mary Elizabeth Hall, and Katherine Irene Hall, and their mother Mary Hall and his sister Dr. Beverly Lorell. His faithful dog, Dixie, has a new home with Corey. In lieu of a memorial, Dr. Hall requested you have a drink on his behalf and consider a donation to his favorite charity, the Kingsport (TN) YMCA at Greater Kingsport Family YMCA 1840 Meadowview Parkway. I had reached out to John a few times last year and had not heard back. Life got busy but I just thought of him today and decided to look him up. I am very sorry to hear of this news. John was a good and kind man. I was blessed to know him briefly. May he rest in peace.

Dear Hall Family,
My very deep condolences for this unexpected and untimely loss. John grew up in Tucson one block away from where I and other close friends lived. He was a well-known member of the "Roskruge Kids" in the neighborhood throughout elementary, junior high school, as well as high school.
May his memory bring you peace and sweetness and gratitude for all that he became and for his unique talents. We shall remember him and reminisce over the years we knew him long after his passing. His time on earth was much too short. Blessings and peace to you and to our friend John's divine soul.

I have many fond recollections of and with John Hall, the earliest of which is when he walked into my laboratory looking for assistance and facilities for a research project he had in mind. We worked together for some time during which he introduced me to a topic of medicine which has proven extremely useful and guided me for many years to a very constructive conclusion. He and I together took our quite young daughters to Lincoln Park Zoo, a beautiful sharing day. We have shared many enjoyable moments together. Rest in respect, John.

This is a photo of John. It was probably taken in the 3rd grade. I took the picture. Elementary school years were unforgettable. RIP

Dear Hall Family: I am truly sorry for your loss....Husband, Father and Fur Baby Lover. We went to THS at the same time. He was one studious young man. It doesn't surprise me that he, in later life, became such an amazing Doctor, with so many accolades to his name.
God Bless you all during this difficult time in all your lives. God Bless!
