John Alvin Hunt, Jr. April 20, 1944- July 13, 2024
KINGSPORT - John Alvin Hunt, Jr., age 80, of Kingsport, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Bristol Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones.
John was born in Kingsport to John Alvin Hunt, Sr. and Nora Lee Calvin Hunt on April 20, 1944, where he resided his entire life. He graduated from Sullivan High School and received an associate's degree from Steed College. John was a captain for Eastman Chemical Company's Fire Department, retiring after 30 years, KATS driver for 15 years, and served on the rescue squad in Hawkins County. He served his country as a Marine from 1965 to 1968. John enjoyed watching dirt track racing, antique cars and car shows. He was a people person and loved to socialize. John loved his family more than anything and will be deeply missed.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Alvin Hunt, Sr. and Nora Lee Calvin Hunt, and brother-in-law, Kenny Carter.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte Hunt; sons, Robert Hunt (Kim) and Nathan Hunt (Susan), grandchildren, Abby Morris (Louie), and Adam Hunt (Hailey Ketron); step-grandson, Andy Kidd (Lauren); step-great-grandson, Sawyer Kidd; sister, Phyllis Carter; special niece and nephew; Jim Carter (Glenda) and Ava Carter; and beloved dog, Charlie.
The family will receive friends from 12-2pm on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral service to follow with Pastor Leroy Davis officiating. Graveside will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Joe Robbins, Wayne Cowden, CD Murdock, Frank Newman, Richard Britton, Jim Carter and Sam Cole.
