Johnny Carter Obituary

KINGSPORT - Johnny "Ted" Carter Jr., 82, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Scott County, VA to the late Johnny Sr. and Sarah Carter. Ted was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Rye Cove. He was of the Baptist faith. Ted was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Linda Carter; brothers, Gus, Guy, and Bruce Carter; sister, Faye Carter.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Edens; sons, Jeff Carter and wife Darlene, Russell Carter and wife Trisha; grandchildren, Melissa Edens, Jessica Roberts, Santana Mullins, Kasey Lee, and Wesley Stidham; several great and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Roach and Hallie Kerns; loving furbaby, Charlie; along with a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, May 5, 2025 at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Morrison City. A funeral service will follow with Pastor James Mann and Pastor Raymond Summey officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kai Turner, Ashtyn Roberts, Wesley Stidham, Noah Roberts, Tony Carter, Katie Wade, and Austin Wall. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the church by 1pm to go in procession to the cemetery.
