Johnny R. Spriggs September 25, 1937 - August 17, 2024
KINGSPORT - Johnny R. Spriggs, 86, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024 with his family by his side. Johnny was born on September 25, 1937 in Meadowview, VA and lived in Kingsport since his childhood. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School, class of '56. He attended UT on a football scholarship and attended ETSU. Johnny retired from Consolidated Freightways as a driver for 30+ years. He was a member of FOE 3141, Mason's Lodge 688 and Jericho Shriners. Johnny was a member of the Trinity Church of the Brethren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Emma Kate Spriggs; son, John R. Spriggs II; and sisters, Joann Johnson and Bernice Rhoton Johnson.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Spriggs; son, Eddie Spriggs and wife, Karen; grandchildren, Ty Spriggs and wife, Kayla, and Tori Spriggs; great-grandchildren, Willow and Maiana Spriggs; brother, Jack Spriggs and wife, Bobbie; several nieces and nephews; and special friends from the old Sullivan lunch bunch.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Phil Graeber officiating.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Spriggs was a long time friend of my family through his dealings with my father, who loved to deal in coins. I started buying silver dollars from him in 1986 when they started printing silver dollars again. My first granddaughter was born in 1986 and I started buying a silver dollar for her collection. I later had two more grandchildren and backed and bought them for all three of them and have continued until this past year, Mr. Sprigg's was a good friend and a good man to do business with. I will certainly miss him when the 2025 silver dollars are printed. My sincere condolances to his wife and family, May God give you peace in his passing.
