Joseph "Randall" Shelton of Morristown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025 under the compassionate care of Caris Healthcare Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
Randall was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, to Joseph and Gwendolyn Shelton. He earned his B.A. from East Tennessee State University, and then he pursued the study of law, graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1964.
After serving his country in the United States Army, Randall returned to East Tennessee to open his law practice and begin what would become more than 50 years of dedicated legal service in Morristown. Known for his integrity, quick wit, and big heart, Randall guided generations of clients with steadiness and compassion.
Randall married the love his life, Doris, in 1965. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Beyond his legal career, Randall was deeply committed to his community. He was a faithful member of Gateway Church and a longtime Rotarian. He loved reading, especially history, and cherished thoughtful conversation that blended humor with insight.
Randall is survived by his devoted wife, Doris Higgins Shelton of Morristown; his daughter, Lada Shelton Horn and her husband Chris of Morristown; and his son, Joe Shelton and his wife Andrea of Nashville. He was a proud grandfather to Seth Horn (Lindsey), Grace Horn Rhodes (Dusty), Spencer Shelton, and Abby Shelton, and a delighted great-grandfather to Ella Grace Rhodes and Hunter Rhodes. His family and friends will remember him for his faith, warmth, humor, and unwavering love.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 Saturday, September 27th at Gateway Church in Morristown Tn. Graveside services will be held at Oak Hills Cemetery in Kingsport Tn on Friday Sept. 26 at 11;00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to [Gateway Church, Rotary Foundation, or another meaningful cause], or to a charity of your choice.
