Josephine Gillespie DelViscio, 83, of West Chester, PA, and formerly a longtime resident of Malvern, passed away on October 29, 2025.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Malvern, Josephine was the daughter of the late Francis M. and Bridget Murphy Gillespie. She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage and her family’s roots in County Longford, which she celebrated with enduring enthusiasm. She attended Villa Maria Academy for much of her childhood and graduated from Conestoga High School.
Josephine was the beloved wife of Francis “Frank” J. DelViscio, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together they created a loving home in Malvern, where they lived for over four decades and raised their two sons, Darrin and Joseph. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Parish in Malvern and valued the friendships and sense of community she found there.
She had a deep love for her family and took great joy in cooking and bringing loved ones together around the table. Josephine cherished her family travels and creating memories together, from summer days on the beach in Sea Isle City to unforgettable road trips to the Great Lakes and Canada with a small pop-up camper.
Josephine is survived by her husband, Frank; her sons, Darrin DelViscio (Rhonda) and Joseph DelViscio; her cherished grandchildren, Sabrina, Katrina (fiancé Ryan Porter), Devin, Dayton, and Francesca (fiancé Michael Beard); and her siblings, Frank Gillespie, Patricia Zonetti, and Rosemary Stackhouse.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Josephine’s visitation at St. Patrick Church, 104 Channing Avenue, Malvern, PA 19355 on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 AM, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Josephine’s name to National MS Society, P.O. Box 91891, Washington, D.C. 20090-1891

In the early years of The Arbours, before the clubhouse was built, a group of us played poker each month. When I think of Josie, I remember the fun and laughter we had playing the game, and the treats she used to serve.

The sound you just heard was that of my heart breaking. I can't believe that Josie has left this earth. I always looked up to the Gillespie girls and was closer to her because Frankie was one of my big brother's buddies, and that wonderful Cusano family took me and my little one in to live with them when their apartment became available! You know sister Poochie and I will be there to give everyone a hug on Wednesday. But it will be a difficult endeavor for sure. Angel hugs to you all at this monumental time of grief. Fly high, Josie. Fly high.

George and I met “Nanny” a few years back when my son Michael met Nanny’s granddaughter Francesca. My husband George and I shared a meal with Nanny. Such a fun, friendly lady. We could tell how much love she had for her family...her husband, son Joe and Francesca.. We have heard many stories of Nanny through Francesca, many stories from Fran growing up with her grandmother and the importance of her in Francescas life. George and I were lucky to have met such a nice lady!
