BLAIRS GAP - Judy Lee "Light" Mullenix, 70, of Blairs Gap community, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Judy was born in Kingsport and grew up in the Blairs Gap community. She graduated from Sullivan High School, class of 1970. Judy was a State aide and Kindergarten aide for 29 years where she had a lot of children who called her "Miss Judy". Judy was a member of Solomon's Temple Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang, taught, and was a quartet and choir member.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Evelyn Light; sister, Willadean Bernard; and special mother-in-law, Eula Mullenix.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Nate Mullenix; sons, Adam and Brandon Mullenix; sister, Irene Shelton and husband Willis; brother, Homer Light Jr. and wife Beverly; sisters-in-law, Brenda Littleton and Faye Mahaffey; several nieces and nephews; and special great-great nephew Caden Farley, who she helped raise.
The family will receive friends from 11 – 1 pm on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Solomon's Temple Missionary Baptist Church. Services will follow with Dr. Bobby Bernard and Rev. Chip McClain officiating. Graveside service will follow at church cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Flowers are acceptable or donations may be given to Solomon's Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 7659 Lone Star Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.

I'm so sorry to learn of Judy's passing. She always had a smile on her face. I remember visiting Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Homer's home when we were both young and Judy and I would swing on those unbelievably big swings in front of the house. Life is so short, but she lived it well.
