Judy Rodefer Obituary
Judy Rodefer
March 2, 1944 - September 3, 2025
Judy Gray Rodefer, 81, of Blountville, passed peacefully at Ballad Hospice House on September 3, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born in Kingsport to Beryl and Bonnie Sexton Gray, Judy graduated from Blountville High School in 1963. She was previously employed by Gordon Garment, Hills Department Store, IBEW Local 934, and Kay's Restaurant. She attended Orebank Chapel Central Baptist Church.
Judy loved mowing her yard, watching the Lady Vols play basketball and softball, taking care of her hummingbirds, and hoarding toilet paper (before it was trendy!). She had a generous, strong spirit and loved her family wholeheartedly. She enjoyed playing Rook with her friends and playfully aggravating everyone she loved. Her passing was peaceful and humorous to the very end-just like the rest of her life.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bud Rodefer; her sister, Virginia Harr; nephews John Harr and Glen Stallcup; niece Cindy Gray Harr; an infant brother and sister; as well as her parents.
Left to carry on her memory and strong will are her daughter, Penny Rodefer Poore, and husband, Roger; granddaughter, Beth Poore Scott, and husband, Matt; great-granddaughters, Foster Scott and soon-to-be-born Eleanor Scott. She is also survived by her brothers, Venis Gray (and wife Peggy) and John Gray; nieces, Debbie Crawford (and husband Danny), and Venessa Clark (and husband Jerry); nephew, Mark Stallcup; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Risner officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on September 6, 2025. Burial will take place immediately after the service.
Judy's family would like to thank the nurses and techs on 4 West at BRMC, NHC Kingsport, and the entire care team at Ballad Hospice House. Special thanks to Dr. Kelley Harris, Dr. John Green, and Dr. Jean Mancini and their staff for their dedicated care over the past 30 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Tennessee Lions Eye Bank, who assisted in the recovery and distribution of her recently transplanted cornea. Please visit the donation section of their website to make a contribution in her honor.
