February 8, 2026
Julius S Maikis, Jr., beloved husband, father, Poppa, uncle, Scout Leader and friend has taken his final journey, February 8,2026. Born on September 26, 1940, to Alouisa (nee Oswald) and Julius S Maikis, Sr., he was raised in Clifton and
North Haledon, New Jersey, with his siblings Robert Maikis and Lucille "Tish" Marino. Jules joined the Army and National Guard and worked for Lilly Tulip and Bayer Chemical, semi-retiring in 1993. After learning to drive on a Johanna Farm Milk delivery truck at the age of 15, Jules continued to live a life of adventure and service. He married his love, Dorothy, on February 23, 1964. Jules loved the outdoors and was an avid camper, hunter, private pilot, reader, competitive archer and archery coach. Sitting by a campfire under the stars or watching the eagle cam were pure joys. WoPeNa Archers, JOAD, and Wilderness Archery, Inc. were some of his favorite places to be. Sussex Airport (NJ) played an important role in his early retirement as he added flying for weekend adventures to his life. If you ever needed a weather forecast, he was your man. As an armchair historian, he loved to read about and visit local Revolutionary and Civil War historic sites. He never passed a historic marker without reading it. After moving to
Kingsport, Tennessee, Jules became a Scout Leader and volunteer, staying connected to his scouts of Troop 48 Pack 348 from Cub Scouts through adulthood. He was a life-long blood donor, and he proudly wore the jacket he received from Marsh Regional Blood Center for his commitment. Jules' most important commitment was to his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy (nee Grasso). Together in faith and love they raised two daughters in Lake Stockholm, New Jersey, Michelle (Mickey) Maikis and Julieann White. As a family they celebrated 4 grandchildren: Hana McNally, Cassidy White, Matthew White, and Joshua White. He was a devoted Poppa to each and enjoyed watching soccer games, fishing, camping, and much more with them. His beloved extended family includes his children's and grandchildren's partners with a special bond to his son-in-law, John White. He was Poppa and Daddy to many who were not his own but loved deeply by him. Jules leaves the adventure to continue with his wife, family, and cherished friends. In a final act of service, Julius has donated his body to be studied for the benefit of those training in medicine. A Celebration of Life will be planned in the future. He has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. You can always honor Pop by taking a walk in the woods, tying a good knot, and being kind to those who cross your path.
