BRISTOL, VA - June McCroskey Dykes went to sleep in Jesus on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Oakmont at Gordon Park in Bristol, Virginia. She was born June 21, 1931, in Washington County, Virginia, to Ernest McCroskey and Nellie Griffith McCroskey. In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Dykes; sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Eddie Warren; sister and brother-in-law, Inez and Raymond Duncan; and brother-in-law, Dana Gobble (Gretchen's late husband).

Those left to cherish June's memory include sister, Gretchen McCroskey (Bob Miles); nieces, Donna Leonard and Linda Cornelius (Jon); nephews, Randy Duncan (Angela), Charles Warren (Judy), and Jerry Warren; several great-nieces and great-nephews plus her husband's nieces and nephews.

At age 16, June graduated from Greendale High School and enrolled in Bristol Commercial Business School. After her studies there, she was employed as a secretary at S. E. Massengill Company. Later she decided to pursue a B.S. degree at Montreat College in Montreat, North Carolina, where she graduated in 1959. She then taught business classes at Meadowview High School one year before returning to secretarial work at Tennessee Eastman Company. After her retirement in 1990, she and Don enjoyed traveling throughout the United States on bus tours.

June was a talented musician and entertained the staff at Oakmont by singing gospel songs. She was an active member of Mountain View United Methodist Church, where she served her women's circle by presenting monthly programs.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Flowers are welcome as are memorial contributions to Mountain View United Methodist Church, 4405 Orebank Road, Kingsport, TN 37664, or a charity of your choice.
