Larry Sylvan Collier

DUFFIELD, VA - Larry Sylvan Collier, 87, Duffield, VA, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the VA Mountain Home, Johnson City, TN.

He was born in East Stone Gap, VA on November 6, 1937, to the late Edgar and Georgia (Gilly) Collier.

Sylvan served his country in the U.S. Army and worked at Holston Defense and Power Equipment Co. until retirement. He spent his remaining years working on his farm.

In addition to his parents, his sister, Edith Smyth and brothers, Harry, Howard, Bill, Roy and Paul Collier preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Palmer Collier; sons, Larry (Sharon) Collier, Jr and Scott Collier; grandchildren, Chris (Candice) Collier, Alex Collier, Brittany (Hunter) Dishner; 5 great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel at 7:00p.m. with Rev. Johnny Duncan and Rev. James Holcomb officiating. A prayer will be offered by Gennis Ford.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the American Legion Hammond post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by the members of the Virginia Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Chris Collier, Alex Collier, Hunter Dishner, Keith Hackler, Terry Hackler, and Dwight Palmer will serve as pallbearers. Roy Palmer, James Palmer and special great grandson, Tucker Dishner will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family wishes to convey special thanks to the CLC staff at the VA Mountain Home and his loving caregiver, Jessica Coomer for their love and care of Sylvan.
