KINGSPORT - Larry Shaffer, 77 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born in Washington County, VA but had lived most of his life in Kingsport. He served in the Tennessee National Guard and retired from Tennessee Eastman Co. following 38 years of service. Larry attended Higher Ground Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Mildred Ketron Shaffer; and his infant brother.
Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol Edwards Shaffer; several aunts, uncles and cousins; brother-in-law, Perry Edwards (Chris); sister-in-law, Janet Clark; 10 additional sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 pm Saturday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport.
A funeral service will follow at 12 pm in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Ed Clevinger officiating.
Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kevin Edwards, Tex Jarrard, Ron Lane, Kenneth Hounshell, Kenneth Wright and Tom Murray.
