Lee Smith Obituary

Mr. Lee William Smith

January 26, 2025

JONESBOROUGH - Mr. Lee William Smith, age 84, Jonesborough, entered the portals of Heaven on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Holston Valley Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born in Coeburn, Virginia, to the late Lee William Smith and Mary Hedrick Smith. In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by a sister, Deloris Smith Green, three brothers, Donald Charles Smith, John Douglas Smith, and Mendol Eugene Smith.

After high school, Lee served in the Unted States Army. He returned home to eventually work for Tennessee Eastman, retiring in 1997. After retiring he spent time developing his hobbies. Anyone who knew Lee well knew that he would rather be on one of the waterways of the Southeast going after that allusive fish that got away than lounging on a beach somewhere. His second favorite hobby was growing and giving away tomatoes. Most of the recipients of his tomatoes were his church friends.

His first church family was Enon Baptist on Highway 107 in Jonesborough where he introduced his grandsons to church. At First Baptist in Jonesborough, Lee was involved in many missions' activities. The last years of his life were spent at Trinity Baptist in Jonesborough where he enjoyed his years as a Deacon.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Shelby Alvis Smith; one son, Derek Smith, who was also his best friend; two grandsons, Craig Smith and Chad Smith, all of Jonesborough; two nieces, Angela (Allen) Morelock and Ramona (Marvin) Bullis; and one nephew, Phillip Green (Nancy), all of Kingsport; one niece, Samantha Sulfridge, Jonesborough; and several other nieces and nephews; two special friends who lived next door, Eli and Charli Edwards, made his life more enjoyable.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Harrod officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Mayberry-Vincent Cemetery.

Shelby, our hearts go out to you and we are praying for peace, comfort, and that your memories will sustain you in the coming days. May you rest on the promises that Lee is now with his Heavenly Father. We always looked forward to seeing you both whether it was at church or at Ingles as we shopped for groceries. We love you and we loved Lee as well. If there is anything we can do for you, please don't hesitate to call. God Bless You as you grieve, and may you know Lee is no longer in any pain or suffering. Blessings, hugs, love, and prayers.
