Lena Hazel Gibson March 16, 1927 - July 31, 2024
WEBER CITY, VA - Lena Hazel Gibson, age 97, of Weber City, VA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Lena was born on March 16, 1927, in Duffield, VA to H.P. and Josie Bledsoe. Lena worked many years with JC Penney, and she was a devout member of First Baptist Church Weber City for 69 plus years.
Lena married Dan Gibson and after a beautiful life together and raising a family, he preceded her in death in November of 1999.
Lena enjoyed tending her flowers and gardens and "being on the go" ... anywhere ... anytime. She loved her family, and her joyful smile will always be remembered by those who knew her.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Dan Gibson; one brother, Glen "Carl" Bledsoe; and two sisters, Jean Moore and Jerry Broadwater. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Betsy Gibson; son, Randy Gibson; grandchildren, Ryan Gibson; Kelsey Vincent and husband Taylor; great grandchild, Brenna Vincent; four nieces, Kim Broadwater, Linda Vaughn, Darlene Shoemaker and Donna Ford; two nephews, Glen Bledsoe and Lyle Bledsoe; and many other loving church members, family, friends, caregivers and special neighbors.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Scott County Funeral Home Weber City. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 pm with Pastor Justin Smith officiating. A graveside service will follow immediately at Holston View Cemetery with Lena's family and friends serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Weber City, 155 Shady Elm, Weber City, VA 24290 and/or to Paula Coffey, 6565 Hurricane Road, Wise, VA 24293 for local animal rescue efforts.
