Sara Ava Lynn Carson, 80, passed away in her sleep, October 31, 2023 and went to meet God. She was born in Kingsport on May 28, 1943, daughter of A. J. and Thelma Anderson Boyd.
Lynn graduated from Sullivan High School and ETSU, with a major in History. She married Charles Douglas (Doug) Carson on December 14, 1963 and moved to Germany as he started his Army career, and her as a 20-year Army wife. Lynn retired as a 2LT from the Marion County Sheriff Department, Indianapolis, IN. She served 11 years as a court advocate with the Indiana Mental Health Association. In her travels throughout the world, she collected beer steins, dirty snowmen and had a critical eye for jewelry.
Lynn and Doug moved back to Kingsport in December 2001 and became active in the Fall Branch UMC where she held many offices, both at Fall Branch and the Kingsport District United Methodist Women, as president.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only son, Clint Joel Carson and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Carson, of the home; several cousins and many friends including a group calling themselves, The Forever Friends, Louann Moore, Tish Williams, Brenda Witt, Sandra Crowe and Pat Graham, most who have been friends since first grade.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport and Monday, November 5, 2023 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Fall Branch UMC. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. David Tully officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Fall Branch UMC, her forever friends, as well as Tony and Nick Sweeney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fall Branch UMC, 1901 TN-93, Fall Branch, TN 37656.
