June 20, 1935 – January 16, 2024
KNOXVILLE - Lynn Allen West died peacefully at home following a lengthy illness on Tuesday, January 16, 2023. He was born June 20, 1935, to parents, Roy and Marjorie West. His family moved to Wartburg where he spent most of his youth. Lynn graduated from Central High School where he played football for the undefeated Bulldogs coached by the legendary Homer Rice. He proudly served in the United States Air Force before graduating from DeVry University.
Lynn is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman, and daughter, Kathy Lasley. He is survived by his wife, Portia Yankee West; son, Gary (Patti) Michael West; daughter, Dr. Morna Christian-Staffel; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Roy (Jane); sisters, Janice and Jean (Fred), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lynn was cofounder of Garrett and West, Inc., a successful telecommunications company here in Knoxville. He was also a member of Church Street United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held at East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Highway, in Knoxville on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Lynn loved his church and requested that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Church Street UMC, 900 Henley St, Knoxville, TN 37902.
