Mack Daniel Edwards

October 5, 1943 -

November 7, 2024

WEBER CITY, VA - Mack Daniel "M.D." Edwards 81, of Weber City, Va went home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family. Mack was born and raised in Scott Co., Va. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and brother-in-law. In 1963, he married the love of his life, Jewell Bledsoe Edwards. They lived 5 ½ years in Baltimore, MD before moving back to Scott Co. where they raised their family. Mack worked at J.P. Stevens for 35 ½ years along with Warren and Colonial Funeral Homes. He helped start the Weber City Volunteer Fire Department. After J.P. Stevens closed, he worked at Carter-Trent Funeral Homes for 18 years, primarily at Scott County Funeral Home until he retired on his 80th birthday. Mack painted houses and cut trees for many people in VA and TN. He loved and supported his family and had many dear and special friends. Mack was a devoted member of Salley's Chapel Baptist Church where he was saved during a revival held by Robert Fletcher and served as a deacon. He loved his church family very much. This last year he found the love of sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds, rabbits, deer, groundhogs and his neighbors' dog, Pepper. His brothers, sisters, and friends found the porch to be a special place to just sit, talk, and spend time together.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion Franklin and Edith Roberts Edwards; sister, Wanda Jackson; nieces, Donna Mendenhall Jones and Sheena Osborne; brothers-in-law, Kyle Doran, Ralph Mendenhall, and Lester Williams as well as his father and mother-in-law Arch and Laura Edna Gilliam Bledsoe.

Mack is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jewell Bledsoe Edwards of the home; daughter, Vicki Edwards Lawson (Lynn) of Weber City; sons, Brian Edwards (Lori) of Weber City and David Edwards (Misty) of Hiltons; grandchildren, Matthew Edwards (Allie) of Weber City, Laura Lawson Wallace (Jake) of Jacksboro, TN, Will Edwards of Weber City, Brady Edwards of Hiltons, and Hunter Lawson of Weber City; sisters, Maudine Doran, Shelby Mendenhall, Sabra Williams (JD), and Phyllis Williams; brothers, Dale Edwards, Jimmy Edwards (Yvonne), Jackie Edwards (Patricia), and Ronald Edwards (Carol); along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 10th, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Wayne Baker and Pastor George Winegar officiating.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 11th, 2024 at 1pm at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons Brian Edwards, David Edwards, Matthew Edwards, Will Edwards, Brady Edwards, and Hunter Lawson. Honorary pallbearers are Lynn Lawson, Jake Wallace, Dale Edwards, Jimmy Edwards, Jackie Edwards, Ronald Edwards, J.D. Williams, Claude Bledsoe, Donald Ray Bledsoe, Jeff Jacobs, Roy Emory, J.C. Fraley, Phillip Lane, Johnny Kimbler, Ricky Duncan, Johnny Duncan, Jiggs Willis, Matt Lawson, Terry Hurley, Billy Jack Johnson, Greg Hall, along with the past and present staff at Carter-Trent Funeral Homes. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15pm to go in procession.

A special thank you to Dr. Bryan Arnette and staff at the HMG in Weber City, to Dr. Jamal Maatouk and staff at the Cancer Center, to all the ER doctors and nurses at both Indian Path Hospital and Holston Valley Medical Center for all the loving compassionate care that was shown to him and our family. Also, a very special thank you to his hospice nurses Jasmine, Emma, Hope, and Candice along with all other palliative and hospice providers.
