KINGSPORT - Marilyn "Mickey" Cress, 88, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Saturday, February 17th, 2024. She was born in Stonega, Virginia in 1935 to the late Edgar R. and Nadine Moseman.
Mickey first met Frank Cress when taking piano lessons from his sister, Betty. Years later, they met again at the Chat and Chew, a teenage hangout in Appalachia. They were wed on September 2nd, 1956.
Frank and Mickey lived inseparable for 67 years until her passing. Mickey was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was an exceptional cook who enjoyed preparing tasty and healthy meals for her family. She had a green thumb and loved flowers, plants, and identifying wildflowers. Lively conversations and staying informed with the news and weather took place each and every day. Mickey was also artistic and creative in many ways and enjoyed painting with watercolors.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Davidson; and her sisters-in-law, Betty Cornett (and husband W.D.), and Anne Babb (and husband Hugh).
She leaves behind her husband, Frank Cress; her son, John Frank Cress and wife Michelle; her grandchildren, Joshua Cress and Rachel Black (and husband Andruss); her nephews, John Cornett (and wife Joan), Dr. Mark Cornett (and wife Debbie, and their sons Tylor and Ryan); her nieces, Stephanie Wright (and husband Eddie), Carla Cornett, Brenda McCroskey (and son John), and Kathy Jaster (and husband Jamie, and sons Eric and Spencer, and wife Caroline and baby Ellie).
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mickey's nurse, Kristy Moody, for her compassionate care and support.
A graveside service will be held at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Virginia on Sunday, February 25th at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Rose officiating.

Mickey was a dear friend and neighbor. We enjoyed working in our flowers together. Always had to show her any new flowers I had blooming. Miss the visits when her and Frank came to town.
Frank, will be praying for you and the rest of the family.
