Mr. Donald Ray Thomas, Sr., of Mount Airy, passed away on January 21, 2026, at his home. He was born in Surry County on August 11, 1935, the son of the late Joe Cecil Thomas, Sr., and the late Ima Estelle Collier Thomas. Mr. Thomas started his work career at Blue Ridge Supply before starting Thomas Produce Company in Greensboro, NC. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and a member of Granite Masonic Lodge # 322. He was a longtime member of Salem Fellowship Church in Mount Airy, NC. Surviving is his wife, Carol Jean Hathaway Thomas; son and daughter-in-law, Donald Ray Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Dianne, daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Scott Millikan; grandchildren, Khristi Thomas Dixon, Katie Thomas Knight and her husband, Evan, Thomas Millikan and his wife, Megan, Tanner Millikan and his wife, Brianna; great grandchildren, Luke Millikan, Gemma Dixon, Sam Millikan, Charlie Knight, Camden Millikan; brother, Joe Cecil Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Gail; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Simmons Thomas. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Salem Fellowship Church with Rev. Donald Ray Thomas, Jr., Rev. Corbin Roberson and Rev. Jack Danley. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with graveside Masonic Rites by Granite Masonic Lodge #322, and the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday night, January 27, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy. Memorials may be made to Salem Fellowship Church, 2591 Wards Gap Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is serving the Thomas family.
