Rev. Maurice Lay January 23, 1936 - September 2, 2024
BLUFF CITY - The Reverend Maurice Lay of Bluff City, TN left his earthly home this afternoon, Monday, September 2, 2024. He retired from the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church where he pastored more than 50 years throughout East TN and SW VA, serving many churches, touching countless lives, serving the Lord after the call to ministry at age 16.
Born January 23, 1936 in Corbin, KY, he was preceded in death by his father, Roy (Osha) Lay; mother, Louise (Rodger) Jones; brother, Ralph Wayne Lay; and grandson, Patrick Heath Parsons.
He is survived by his wife, the love of his life for 67 years, Patsy Tipton Lay; son, David (Linda) Lay; daughters, Kim (Steve) Parsons, Marty (Mark) Gray; sisters-in-law, Ruth Langford, Barbara Yankee; brother-in-law, Danny (Kathy) Tipton; his many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Mowell Cemetery, Goshen Valley with Rev. Lloyd Jones officiating.
The family wishes to thank the phenomenal caregivers at BRMC this past week.
