SURGOINSVILLE - Melissa Rogers, age 54, of Surgoinsville, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Johnson Medical Center with her family by her side. Melissa was born November 12, 1969, in Hawkins County. She lived in Surgoinsville all her life. Melissa's passion was doing hair. She went to college to become a cosmetologist to pursue her dreams, but little did she know that wasn't her dream at all. She stayed home and raised her grandbabies. She was a member of Longs Bend Free Will Baptist Church where she valued and followed God as her Lord and Savior. Melissa or "Mimi" as some called her, was a joyful, fun, loving and caring person to be around. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Nelms; father, Bob Reynolds; grandparents, Chester Presley, Selma Presley, Stanley Burchfield, Lynard Reynolds and Lilian Rush Reynolds; and aunt and uncle, Don and Norma Johnson.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Rogers; dad, Chuck Nelms; daughter, Stacy Taylor and fiancé, Stephen Collins; son, Ryan Golden and fiancé, Faith Williams; grandchildren, Ashleigh Golden, Wesley Trent and fiancé, Logan, Ethan Taylor, Alden Beck, Riley Golden, Maddi Golden and Abby Golden; sister, Leann Reynolds, and Becky Dickson and husband, Mark; brother, Bobby Reynolds; good friends, Travis Taylor; aunt and uncle, Earline and Tommy Bellamy; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Interment will follow at Longs Bend Cemetery.
