Melvin Parks Obituary
April 13, 2025
NICKELSVILLE - Melvin "Dougie" Parks, 75 of Nickelsville, VA entered into the Gates of Heaven on Sunday, April 13, 2025 while in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family. Doug was the son of the late George Melvin and Eva Miller Parks. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He also was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, and especially farming. Doug was also a member of Rock View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his son, Jason Douglas Parks; two sisters, Shelby Babb and Stella Cassell; two brothers, Buford Parks and J.C. Parks; brother-in-law, Mack Daugherty.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sue Parks; daughter, Amanda Dean (Chris); three granddaughters, Brooklyn Parks, Miley Taylor and Jada Taylor; sister, Marsie Daugherty; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tommy Meade and Pastor Samuel Newland officiating. Music will be provided by the Phillips Family. Pallbearers will be Jared Taylor, Billy Dean, Justin Dean, Garry Dean, Josh Sparkman, and P. Dale. Honorary pallbearers will be Tanner Hall, Steve Corder and Derrick Corder. Military Graveside service will be on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM conducted by American Legion Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA at the Parks Family Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain States Health Alliance and Elite Hospice for their exceptional care during Doug's illness.
