Morris Allen Bartley June 7, 2024
COEBURN, VA - Morris Allen Bartley (age 83) of Coeburn, Virginia departed this life on June 7, 2024, one day before his 56th wedding anniversary.
He was the son of the late Oscar and Eula Bartley of Coeburn. He was also preceded in death by his two sisters Glenna Slemp and Brenda Couk and his brother Urban Bartley.
He was the owner and operator of Bartley Electric from 1968 to 2021, through which he made many life-long friends.
He miraculously survived a work accident on January 31, 2020, when he fell off a 30-foot ladder onto an asphalt driveway. He was a patient in three hospitals for a total of five months, then persevered through months of out-patient rehab and endured additional surgeries during the last two years. He was determined not to let the accident beat him. In his opinion, he won the battle.
Outside of his business he enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for model trains, NASCAR Cup racing and camping with his family, especially with his grandsons. A 7-1/2 foot Christmas tree filled with only trains of all kinds was a must have. Train excursions were also the thing to do too - like riding in the engine of the Dollywood Express and exiting covered with black coal soot, wearing your PJs on the Polar Express train and experiencing the Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends train ride.
He was always the first in line to help his daughter with any of her undertakings which included his hands-on support with the Blue Knight Marching Band and to support his grandsons, particularly with anything that had to do with the Boy Scouts and their becoming an Eagle Scout. He was very proud to be her father and their grandfather.
Survivors include his wife Clara Lee Fletcher Bartley, daughter Wanda Elizabeth Rose, grandsons Daniel Isaac and Ethan Sabastian Rose, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, VA.
