Naomi Ruth Goins Lawson June 9, 1932- April 23, 2024
ROGERSVILLE - Naomi Ruth Goins Lawson, departed this life for her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. She was born June 9, 1932 in the Big Springs Community of Hancock County, Tennessee the daughter of Zack and Bessie (Begley) Goins. She began school in the Fourth Civil District of Hancock County, attending one room schools at Walnut Grove in the Fisher's Valley Community and in the Big Springs Community. In 1941, the family moved to the Eidson Community of Hawkins County, Tennessee where Naomi started the third grade at Lonesome Pine when it was a new building. The family attended Compromise Baptist Church where she was saved and Baptized by Rev. Hoil Minor in 1947. She attended Clinch High School and was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1951. In June 1951 she married Renn Lawrence Lawson. They were married for 57 years before his death in 2009. They lived in the Eidson Community of Hawkins County until moving to the Choptack Community near Rogersville in 1957 where they lived on the family farm where Mrs. Lawson still resided. They were active members of Choptack Missionary Baptist Church. "Mammaw" as she was called by her family, enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing and embroidery. She was known for her numerous flannel baby blankets and hand sewn Christmas ornaments with each grandchild's name embroidered. All the grandchildren and their friends enjoyed many gingerbread cookies made by Mammaw Lawson. Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Lawson is preceded in death by four brothers, Alvin York Goins, George Luther Goins, William Jennings "Sambo" Goins, and Glen Gordon Goins and one great-granddaughter, Dana Rennly Horton.
She is survived by three daughters and one son all of Rogersville Sandra Kay Bass (Larry), Gloria Karen Horton (Lloyd), Pamela Renee Jenkins (Douglas) and Renn Lawrence Lawson, Jr. (Audrey); 12 grandchildren, Rebecca Kay Trent, Angela Fay Gillenwater (John Shannon), Renn Lawrence, III (Jennifer), Laura Michelle Mayes (Travis), Larry Bass, Jr., Joshua Edward Horton (Rachel), Justin Glenn Horton (Becca), Zachary Anderson Lawson (Alexandria), John Douglas Jenkins, William Renn Jenkins, Laura Grace Jenkins, James Lawson Jenkins; 17 great-grandchildren, Stephen Trent (Kathryn), Autumn Trent, Rachel Trent, Emily Hutchinson (Eric), Lexie Gillenwater, Brayden Lawson, Carrie Ruth Lawson, Zaden Mayes, Anistyn Mayes, Allie Beth Bass, Neal Bass, Parker Horton, Anna Horton, Henry Horton, Huck Horton, Izzy Lawson, and Emmy Lawson; 5 great-great grandchildren, Jaden, Layla and Sawyer Trent, Jax and Miles Avery; one sister, Gloria Jean Maness; sisters-in-law, Joyce Goins, Clara Goins, Hope Lawson Byrd and Judy Lawson Padgett and three brothers-in-law, Hugh Lawson, Andy Lawson and Frank Lawson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Dalle-Ave and nurse Joyce Carter for their many years of great compassion, care and friendship, as well as the many caregivers with Amedisys Home Health including Deborah Lawson, Maggie Gillenwater Stacy, Heather Parrott, Crystal Fugate, Keisha Miller, and Kayla Horne. In her last days, the family is grateful for the care and compassion shown by the Emergency staff at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital and the ICU staff at Greeneville Community Hospital.
Visitation hours will be 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Choptack Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted 3:00 P.M., Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Choptack Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Osborne and Rev. Larry Parrott officiating. Burial will follow in Choptack Baptist Church Cemetery.
