Nell Holbrook Asbury May 25, 2024
WISE, VA - Nell Holbrook Asbury, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Nell graduated from Radford College in 1948 and moved to Wise, VA to begin her teaching career of 30 years. It was there that she met and married her loving husband, Morton Asbury, and they raised three children together.
Beyond her teaching career, Nell found joy in cooking for her family and many others, tending to her flower gardens, talking on the phone to her many friends, and working puzzles. She was a "social butterfly". Nell was a member of the Wise Trinity United Methodist Church, where she loved cooking for the potluck dinners and feeding the congregation.
Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Morton Asbury; son, John Asbury; parents, Wilson and Maxie Holbrook and siblings, Betty Woodard and Bill Holbrook.
Nell will be dearly missed by her surviving family members; daughters, Sarah Kring and husband Tony and Jeannie Stallard and husband Robby; daughter-in-law, Carol Asbury; grandchildren, Marcee Asbury, Lacey Stallard Kitz and husband Bryan, Robert Stallard and wife Lauren, Jason Dean and wife Trista, Shannon Dean and wife Stacey, James Kring, Amy Goins and husband Kyle, and Grady Kring and wife Kaitlin; great-grandchildren, Blake Asbury, Jack Stallard, Victoria, Nathan, Brynleigh, Shayley, Sophie, Joseph, Alexis, Jailyn, Zach, Angie, Ellie, Eva, Birdie, Darcy and Bodie; special cousin, Gerry Buchanan; special friends and caretakers, Barry Boggs, Cindy Cheek, Mark Graham and Margaret Moore; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Nell Asbury will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Phillip Bates officiating. Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. till time of services at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nell H. Asbury Scholarship One College Ave Wise, VA 24293 or to Trinity United Methodist Church 110 West Main Street Wise, VA 24293.
