Paul Wood Obituary

Paul David Wood

September 8, 1954 -

February 26, 2025

Our beloved Paul David Wood, 70, entered Heaven on February 26, 2025; passing away at home surrounded by his family after a life richly lived in service and kindness.

David was born in Sullivan County, TN on September 8, 1954, to parents Doris Sandidge Wood and Paul Junior Wood. After graduating from Lynn View High School in 1972, he began work at Eastman where he worked in Fire Maintenance until his retirement in 2006. He went on to work for the City of Church Hill as Fire Chief and Building Inspector until his full retirement in September 2019, after which he spent his time being the best husband, dad, Papaw and friend to those he loved. He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church.

David was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons and also enjoyed rocking his granddaughter on his porch. He was a skilled self-taught carpenter and enjoyed mission work and helping anyone who needed it. David was a mentor who loved sharing his knowledge and experience. His greatest strength was compassion and caring for co-workers, family, friends, and strangers.

He was preceded in death by parents, Doris and Paul Wood, and son, Jeremy David Wood.

David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karla Ford Wood; son, Paul Luke Wood (Emily); daughter, Emily Elizabeth Wood; grandchildren, Collin and Grant Wood, and Charlcie Wood; sisters, Pauletta McKenzie (Charles), Martha Simmons (Wayne), and Pamela Fink (Mike); and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 pm on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Bryan Orchard and Pastor Ben Cole officiating.

Pay was such a good dad to Luke and Emily. Jason , my son and Luke were best friend growing up. They went everywhere together. Paul and Karla would take turns with me taking them to the movies and different places. All I have are
Sweet memories of their whole family .Paul Was an exceptional , patient , loving man who cherished his whole family and cared for others like they were family. I
Privileged for knowing him and I thank God my son was around him
And his family during his younger years. I thank my Lord most of all and know I will

Mr. Wood & his son Luke were a blessing in my Son Jason´s life . They were good friends in elementary and middle school. These 2 men and the Wood family showed so much love and ´ kindness and were a big part of my sons life. Luke was at our house or Jason was at Luke´s house every weekend . I really appreciate their loyalty and mentorship in my sons life.. Mr.wood Was a dad everyone would want to have in their life . He was an awesome parent to all the kids.
