Peggy Carpenter Chase, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 19, 2023, with her loving husband Leonard Chase and her nephew, Chris Carpenter, by her side at Johnson City Medical Center. She had developed non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver caused by taking cholesterol medication. Peggy grew up in Sullivan Gardens and graduated from Sullivan West High School with the class of 1962, where she made many lifelong friends – especially Carlos Franklin and Patsy Dodson. After graduation, she worked at Tom Yancey Lincoln Mercury Dealership for many years as their Bookkeeper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Mildred Brooks Carpenter; two brothers, Tommy Gene Carpenter and Joe Phil Carpenter.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Leonard Chase; brother Larry Carpenter (Terry), special aunts, Bobby Carpenter and Kathleen Shelton, whom she loved dearly; two nephews, Chris Carpenter and Randy Carpenter (Amy); niece, Carol Rutrough; two great-nieces, Sarah Goodyear and Ella Carpenter; and special cousins, Susie Carpenter, Audrey Lawson, Lisa Carpenter.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Pastor Paul and Pam Shaeffer and the congregation at West Colonial Hills Baptist Church for all their prayers and cards. Also, to Dr. Aaron Metcalf and staff, and Dr. Adam Coe and staff for all of their special concern and exceptional help they gave to Peggy.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Paul Shaeffer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peggy's memory to West Colonial Hills Baptist Church, 1205 Kendrick Creed Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the charity of one's choice.
