Phyllis Corder Obituary

Phyllis Carolyn Greear Corder

January 16, 2025

CHURCH HILL - Phyllis Carolyn Greear Corder, 84, of Church Hill, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on January 16th, 2025.

Phyllis was born in Coeburn, Virginia, the oldest daughter of Lennie O. (Buck) and Letha H. Greear. She graduated from Coeburn High School and Clinch Valley College. Phyllis met Wayne Corder while working in Coeburn, and they married in 1961. They were devoted to one another, and Wayne preceded her in death on November 16, 2024. Phyllis enjoyed working at the Church Hill Library from 1977-2000 and served as Librarian for several years. Phyllis and Wayne were members of First Freewill Baptist Church in Church Hill, where they served the Lord faithfully for many years. They loved to attend class reunions, solve crossword puzzles together, and fellowship with their church senior group, The Golden Eagles. An apple butter stir was one of their favorite activities. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by her siblings, Alma Harmon, Barbara Blevins, and Warren Greear; daughter, Lisa Hamilton and husband Scott; son, Steve Corder and wife Cheryl; granddaughter Emily Clark and husband Bradlee; grandson Caleb Hamilton and wife Chelsey; great-granddaughter Annie Clark, and a host of special friends.

The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to the staff of Life Care Center of Gray. Over the past few weeks, they cared for Phyllis with excellence, compassion, and kindness. We will be forever grateful.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 23, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Johnson - Arrowood Funeral Home in Church Hill. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m., with Rev. Mitch Russell officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 24, at 11 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Steve Corder, Caleb Hamilton, Bradlee Clark, Roger Blevins, Chris Blevins, and Tim Blevins will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
