Phyllis Fugate Plageman October 21, 1944- September 23, 2024
LAKE WYLIE, SC - Mrs. Phyllis Elizabeth Fugate Plageman, 79, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loved ones. Phyllis was born, October 21, 1944, in Kingsport, TN to the late James Edwin Fugate, and Elizabeth Click Fugate. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Fugate Hobson, and her brothers, J. E. Fugate, Jr. and Charles Fugate. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gerard "Jerry" H. Plageman, IV; her daughters, Jenifer Lynn Plageman-Davis (Kevin), Knoxville, TN, and Elizabeth Janine Plageman, Lake Wylie, SC; her two grandchildren, Eliza Lee-Luo Davis and Jackson Henry Niemiec. Phyllis grew up in Big Stone Gap, VA and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia (now VCU) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She met the love of her life, Gerard, on a blind date, and they never looked back - marrying in 1968. She had two daughters and the family of four moved around the country before settling in Lake Wylie, SC in 1984 where they made a home for 40 years. Phyllis was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a compassionate nurse and had a passion for helping those in need. She loved nothing more than being with family, including her beloved Yorkshire Terriers. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 4820 Charlotte Hwy., Lake Wylie, SC. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be private at All Saints Catholic Church.
