Our wonderful, loving, and sweet dad, Ralph Vernon (R.V.) McConnell Jr. passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024.
On December 18, 1944, R.V. was born to the late Ralph Vernon Sr. and Flora McConnell in Weber City, Virginia.
He attended Gate City High School and later graduated from East Tennessee State University. He was the beloved husband of Nancy whom he married in September of 1964. His greatest joys were being the best and most treasured father and "Pop Pop."
His favorite hobby was working on cars. He attended many car shows, especially the Shades of the Past in Pigeon Forge. Having a street rod of his own, he always enjoyed tinkering with it. This was something that he and Jason shared.
He was employed at Eastman for twenty-five years, mainly in Human Resources where he both mentored and guided many employees.
Above all else, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church, he taught many Sunday school classes sharing the word of God.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Nancy, his son, Mark and his second wife Marlene.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Julie Bass (Tim Bass); sons, Tim McConnell (Wendy McConnell) and Jason McConnell (Kristin McConnell); grandchildren, Laura Harper, Benjamin Harper, Morgan Harper, Abby McConnell, Jenna McConnell, Brooke McConnell, Josh McConnell, and Kaleb McConnell; siblings, Betty Dishner and Patricia McConnell.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 6:00-7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 7:00 pm with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating.
Graveside Service will be conducted Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of the Last Supper. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff on Wing 3, Wilcox Hall for their compassionate care of R.V.

Patty and Betty, I'm holding you and all your family in my prayers asking God to give you the peace and comfort only He can. R.V. was a good man and as asset to his family, church and community. I know the loss you are experiencing as I have a brother in heaven also. Won't it be a grand reunion.

What a special man, who loved Jesus and demonstrated the love of Christ to so many people around him. He was a wonderful Christian mentor to me and I definitely look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. I have no doubt that RV will hear these words: "Well done good and faithful servant"

It broke my heart to hear this. R. V. Was one of the best people I ever worked with and for. He was like a big brother. Such a good Christian man. Prayers for all the family.
