ROSE HILL, VA - Rex A. Hensley, 88, of Rose Hill, VA passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023 at his home with loved ones by his side.
He was born on January 4, 1935 to the late McKinley and Cora Lee Hensley, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Cheek Hensley, his siblings, Oscar Hensley, Glen Hensley and his wife Mary, James Hensley, Sam Hensley and Walt Hensley and his wife Linda, and two sons-in-law, Carl Stewart and Joe Beckwith.
Rex was in the U.S. Army Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division who logged 36 jumps during his service. Rex worked in maintenance at Ohio Rubber until his retirement. He was a member of Rose Hill Christian Church. He enjoyed four wheeling on Stone Mountain in Lee County and loved a good bowl of soup beans and cornbread.
He is survived by his children, Rhodella Damron, Debra Kepiro and husband Robert, Coletta Jaine Stewart, Rex Allen Hensley and his wife Tina; three sisters, Marie Snodgrass, Phyllis McManus and Beulah Wilder and husband Burl; sister-in-law, Barbara Sue Lakins Hensley; seven grandchildren, Melissa Damron, Michelle Bechtel and husband Cody, Sarah Thrower and husband Jason, Jasmine Hensley, Jessica Hensley, Alydia Stewart, Derek Stewart; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, in the Cheek Cemetery, located adjacent to his home in Rose Hill with Pastor Marvin Matlock officiating.
